Make sure the folder and the file name of codebreaker doesn't have spaces.example:/codebreaker/CB10.ELFKeep in mind also that an ELF file is similar like an EXE app on a computer, but ELF is for PS2. Executing the ELF file will run the program.Also make sure your memory card is not too full or it's a genuine Sony memory card. Third party cards tend to fail.On my PS2 Slim, I have FreeMCboot on memory card 1 (known as MC0) and codebreaker is on memory card 2 (known as MC1).I just tested the version I linked in that site, and it loads fine. So I would inspect your memory cards.
Just don't delete your freemcboot card.Make sure no USB device is connected when you launch codebreaker. I've experienced the blackouts only when I leave a USB device connected to my Slim.Also make sure you moved the entire ELF file. If your memory card is full, it might only copy a piece of it, but not the whole thing. It should be a 3.62 MB file. I tried the steps mentioned by you but the same blackscreen!!!I have just tried that patched CodeBreaker 10.ELF and can confirm that it works. On my 70003 it works from USB, but on my 75003 it will hang when trying to load from USB but loads from memory card okay, wonder if SwapMagic, Pgen or SNES Station does the same thing.Check the size of CB10.elf if it is 0bytes, delete it, then copy it on to your memory card again, i think you need enough room to create a save file on its first run.
