The biggest problem for me with the subscription method is that it looks like it requires an internet connection to phone home. I've had more than one painful experience with this kind of setup, you settle in for a long flight and some quality development time, only to find that the tools won't work because they need to phone home. In addition, there's nothing more frustrating than going back to a carefully protected maintenance dev system to do a fix only to find it's stopped working.
